11 New Movies & TV Shows That You Should Watch on Netflix in January

While there are some great titles leaving Netflix in December, there’s a whole new crop of movies and TV shows coming in January. If you’d like to check out what’s leaving Netflix in December, read my write up here, but for now, check out 11 new movies and TV shows you should watch on Netflix in January.

  1. Friends: Complete Series. In 2015, all of the episodes of Friends will finally hit Netflix. While the sitcom wasn’t made with binge-watching in mind, it’s something nice to have in the background while your working, cooking, or getting ready for your day. Available on January 1.
  2. chef-movie

  3. Chef. While I wasn’t a fan of the movie, as a whole, Chef is pretty harmless and features some of the best food porn I’ve ever seen in a movie. Available on January 28.
  4. Bad Boys II. Michael Bay’s masterpiece Bad Boys II hits Netflix, as its predecessor leaves the online streaming service on the same day. Although Bad Boys II doesn’t have the same kind of cohesive plot as the original, it features some of the best action and car chase sequences Michael Bay has ever made. Available on January 1.
  5. fear-and-loathing-in-las-vegas

  6. Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas. Terry Gilliam’s weird film adaptation of Hunter S. Thompson’s novel of the same name features some of the best Johnny Depp has to offer in movies. While Depp usually takes on strange characters, Raoul Duke has to one of the strangest. Available on January 1.
  7. Cast Away. Tom Hanks delivers an Academy Award nominated performance as a FedEx employee who survives a plane crash, only to find himself stranded on a desert island for four years. It’s actually the last movie Robert Zemeckis made since he shifted his attention to motion capture movies in the early 2000s. Available on January 1.
  8. to-be-takei

  9. To Be Takei. This is a fun documentary about the life and career of George Takei, as an icon of Asian American and Gay actors in television and popular. If you’re a Star Trek fan, this documentary is a must! Available on January 1.
  10. Mean Girls. Mean Girls comes and goes on Netflix semi-regularly. But it’s always welcomed when it appears in your Netflix queue. Mean Girls is also one of the best teen comedies made in the last 15 years. Available on January 1.
  11. The War of the Worlds. While Steven Spielberg’s 2005 remake of The War of the World isn’t available on Netflix streaming, the 1953 original science fiction is. It’s not as high tech as the remake, but it’s something well worth watching, if you a fan of the genre. Available on January 1.
  12. election

  13. Election. Alexander Payne and Reese Witherspoon’s break out comedy hit Election comes to Netflix in January. The movie follows three high school students as they campaign to be class president. Available on January 1.
  14. Wayne’s World 2. The sequel to Wayne’s World doesn’t hit as hard as the original, but it’s still a very funny as a sequel. It’s almost hard to top Wayne’s World because it’s such a timeless classic, but Wayne’s World 2 comes pretty close. Available on January 1.
  15. the-french-connection

  16. The French Connection. Director William Friedkin and actor Gene Hackman won Academy Awards for The French Connection in 1971. While the film is over 40 years old, it’s still one of the most thrilling and exciting genre movies around. It’s full of “I can’t believe they filmed that” moments! Available on January 1.
