Every Best Picture Winner From 1927-1939

I used to work at a movie theater where I learned a lot about the inner workings of this small part of the entertainment industry. For example, the months of November-January are known as “Oscar bait” season. Or, at least that’s what I called it. The Winter months are when all of the movies that will be up for awards come out. Tomorrow the Academy will announce the nominees for the 2015 Oscars and everyone, including myself, will be scrambling to watch the movies they missed out on in preparation for the big night. No matter what your thoughts on the Oscars are there’s no denying that since the beginning they have been littered with good movies.

Wings (1927/1928)

The Broadway Melody (1928/1929)

All Quiet On The Western Front (1930)

I admit that I didn’t give enough credit to this book or this movie when I had to read it for High School.

Cimarron (1931)

Grand Hotel (1932)

Cavalcade (1933)

It Happened One Night (1934)

One of my all time favorite movies!

Mutiny On The Bounty (1935)

The Great Ziegfeld (1936)

The Life Of Emile Zola (1937)

You Can’t Take It With You (1938)

Gone With The Wind (1939)
