About the ingredients in FNX Relax Sleep Aid
Before we start discussing the individual ingredients in FNX Relax Sleep Aid, you should know that it contains proprietary blends.
Proprietary blends are when a supplement manufacturer decides to hide the individual dosages of some of the ingredients in their supplement. Instead, they group these ingredients together under larger dosages.
Is this bad? It’s hard to say, but at least questionable.
Without knowing the full doses of the ingredients in this supplement, it becomes difficult to know how effective it really is, and how much is filler.
It can compromise the integrity of the supplement.
Below, we assess the main ingredients in FNX Relax Sleep Aid along with our thoughts on them:
Magnesium
This is the first ingredient we’re evaluating in FNX Relax Sleep Aid, and we have to say it’s a great choice.
Magnesium is one of the better minerals out there when it comes to sleep. This is because of how it interacts with your body’s central nervous system.
Magnesium can help to calm electrical impulses across your muscles which can help to reduce twitches and jerks. The result is that you’re moving around less during your sleep.
With less involuntary movements overnight, you’re less likely to wake yourself up and more likely to fall into a deeper more effective sleep.
It’s an effective addition to this supplement.
Valerian Root
This isn’t a direct promoter of sleep in FNX Relax Sleep Aid, but it does have some good effects.
Also known as Valeriana Officinalis, Valerian root is a herb which is commonly used in herbal teas.
The main thing that it does is help to reduce your levels of anxiety and promote an overall sense of calm. This works mainly by promoting a hormone in your brain called GABA which reduces anxiety and promotes relaxation.
If you have this before bed, it’s easier for you to get into a better mindset which can help you to fall asleep faster and more effectively.
Hops Extract
This is more of a support for the Valerian root in FNX Relax Sleep Aid. Hops is commonly used in beer, but it now being combined with Valerian root more and more.
The reason is that it too can help promote your overall levels of GABA. This can help give the Valerian root some added backup in this supplement, allowing it to be more effective and get you into a relaxed, sleep-ready mood much faster.
However, research is still on going and more study may be needed to know just how well it works here.
Calcium Citrate
Calcium is a standard essential mineral and helps a lot with bone health in the body. When it comes to sleep however, it may not be a great use in FNX Relax Sleep Aid.
Does it help sleep at all?
Calcium mainly helps promote sleep by how it affects L-Tryptophan. However, there is no Tryptophan in this supplement.
Calcium helps to speed up the conversion of Tryptophan into your body’s sleep hormone melatonin. This supplement would be much better if this Calcium had some L-Tryptophan to combine with.
L-Theanine
This is a much better ingredient in FNX Relax Sleep Aid. Commonly found in herbs like Green Tea, L-Theanine is a great option for getting you into a better mindset for sleep.
It is an amino acid which can help improve your overall levels of GABA. Again, as we’ve mentioned GABA can help to reduce your anxiety and increase your overall levels of relaxation.
Again, with this more chilled mindset, it’s much easier for your body to shift into sleep.
Melatonin
Arguably the most important ingredient in FNX Relax Sleep Aid.
Melatonin is your body’s natural sleeping hormone. It regulates your sleep and your sleeping patterns. Without it you would have serious problems.
By supplementing it, you can help improve your overall levels of melatonin and enjoy better quality sleep.
However, we would say that we don’t have any confirmation on whether or not the melatonin in FNX Relax Sleep Aid is natural. Many supplement companies choose to use artificial melatonin in their supplements due to it’s availability. This may compromise the overall effects.
Ashwaganda
This is an effective choice in FNX Relax Sleep Aid, with plenty of research behind it.
Ashwagandha is a herb which doesn’t directly promote sleep, but may help in othe ways. It’s an anti-stress herb. Supplementing Ashwagandha can help to reduce your overall levels of the stress hormone cortisol.
When you’re stressed, be it physically or mentally, your cortisol levels shoot through the roof. This can affect you on numerous levels, and it definitely affects your sleep.
By taking something like Ashwagandha, you can help to reduce your cortisol levels and work to minimize your amount of the stress hormone.
This can give your body a better hormonal environment to promote sleep and give you an easier night of drifting off.
Saberry (Amla Extract)
This is branded version of Amla extract, which is also known as Emblica Officinalis and more commonly as Indian Gooseberry.
It may not be the strongest choice in FNX Relax Sleep Aid, due to the lack of research on it regarding sleep.
The main claim that you see for Amla extract is to rub the oil of it into your scalp to promote sleep. However, there are not studies to show the same applies to supplementing it.
The closest we could find was a mouse study which showed that supplemeting Amla along with various other herbs helped to reduce anxiety. We couldn’t find any of Amla doing this when taken in isolation.
All in all, we think this is a herb with a degree of promise, but needs a lot more research before we can recommend it.
Resveratrol & Black Pepper Extract
We’re grouping these together in our test of FNX Relax Sleep Aid as they both do similar things.
Both Resveratrol and Black Pepper do not promote sleep, but they do help with nutrient absorption.
This can help your body to get more out of the ingredients in this supplement and allow them to absorb into your system at a faster rate.
Nothing groundbreaking here, they’re just some general supplement support. Always a good move and sensible to see in here.
FNX Relax Sleep Aid Ingredient Profile Summary
There’s a lot of ingredients in here, so we’ll do our best to sum up the profile as best as we can.
First things first, that proprietary blend has got to go. How can you know effective a supplement is if you don’t know how well-dosed the ingredients are? It’s suspicious.
Secondly, we think some L-Tryptophan would be a great addition to this supplement. It’s great for giving your body the precursor to make some natural melatonin and it would work well with the calcium in here.
Next, we don’t know if the melatonin in here is natural. It could be synthetic which could reduce the overall effect of it. Our advice would be for FNX Relax Sleep Aid to use something like Tart Cherries. These contain their own natural melatonin and would completely resolve the issue.
There are plenty of improvements that could be made here.
Is FNX Relax Sleep Aid safe to use?
We think so, but we would suggest that you check with your doctor before taking it.
One thing we are not are medical experts. We just give your the breakdown of this supplement, it’s always best to check with a professional first.
That said, the ingredients in here appear to be safe, and it shouldn’t cause you any problems.
FNX Relax Sleep Aid Summary
As you can see, there are some good points and bad points. Our main view is that there are too many ingredients in here.
We feel that FNX Relax Sleep Aid put a lot in here, and that spread them a bit thin – and we think they may have used a proprietary blend to hide that.
This may not be true, it’s just our opinion of why they’d still be using a proprietary blend considering the reputation of these now in the industry.
Apart from that there are some good ingredients in here. Not the best that we’ve seen, but definitely not the worst. Adding some L-Tryptophan in here, dosage transparency and potentially ensuring their melatonin is natural could help them a lot here.
