Inspecting Genius Sleep Aid’s Ingredients

It’s a clear nutrient profile. Every ingredient is clearly listed with all the dosages included. This type of transparency is what we like a lot.

As for the ingredients themselves, there are plenty of options to help you with sleep here. Not every option is a home-run, but a lot of the basics are covered.

Below, we look at each ingredient along with what they do, and our thoughts:

Genius Sleep Aid's Full Ingredients

L-Glycine

This is a nice start to Genius Sleep Aid. L-Glycine is an amino acid in this supplement which has been seen to help promote sleep.

Not only has some studies shown that supplementing Glycine can help improve the quality of your sleep, it can also speed up the time it takes for you to drift off.

In other cases Glycine supplementation has even been seen to help improve productivity the day after. However, more research is needed to confirm these claims.

L-Theanine

Another amino acid in Genius Sleep Aid which we think is a good addition.

L-Theanine is commonly found in herbs like green tea and is great for improving relaxation and calmness. It can also help to reduce anxiety by promoting your levels of the hormone GABA.

In doing so, this can put you in a much better mindset by the time you get to bed. It doesn’t directly promote sleep – but it sets the stage to make the process of getting there as easy as possible.

Rutaecarpine

We don’t often see Rutaecarpine in sleep supplements. There’s not enough evidence to confirm it works for sleep at the moment – but it does look promising.

So, what is thought to do in Genius Sleep Aid?

Mice studies show that supplementing Rutaecarpine can help suppress caffeine levels in your system and make it less effective. In a way it helps to flush the stimulant out of your body faster. This can help reduce the potency of the stimulant in your body and fall asleep easier.

However, as we’ve mentioned, it’s only been observed to work in mouse studies. These benefits have not been proven in human testing. It may not deliver the same benefits to you.

Inositol

This isn’t an ingredient in Genius Sleep Aid that promotes sleep. Inositol is more of a supporting nutrient in this supplement.

Research shows that Inositol can help promote blood and nutrient flow. The benefit of this is that it can help the other nutrients in Genius Sleep Aid get into your system at a much faster rate.

It should help your body to absorb and activate them faster, which should make it easier for you to get to sleep. Especially if you’re taking this supplement just before bed.

Melatonin

The final ingredient in Genius Sleep Aid, and a good one. Melatonin is your body’s sleep hormone. When your body releases it into your blood stream, it starts to tell you that it’s time to go to sleep.

By supplementing it, you can help improve on that and make sleep happen even faster.

Our only concern with the melatonin in Genius Sleep Aid is that it may not be natural. Most of the time, supplement companies choose to use artificial melatonin. This is mainly because it is more readily available and cheaper to use. However, it may not be as potent as the real thing.

We don’t know if the melatonin in here is natural, but we do know Montmorency Tart Cherries are packed with natural melatonin – they might’ve been a better option here.

Ingredient Summary

There are some good ingredients in Genius Sleep Aid. The Glycine and the Melatonin are the better options in here for sure.

We have some doubts about the Rutaecarpine, as animal studies only prove so much. Also the other ingredients only get you in the right mindset – they don’t actively promote sleep.

Some better options that we think would improve this supplement are magnesium, L-tryptophan and Montmorency Tart Cherries (as we’ve already mentioned).

Magnesium is great because it helps you to sleep longer. It relaxes muscle impulses across your body overnight – which reduces twitching. This stops you from waking yourself up in your sleep.

L-Tryptophan helps a lot too because your body converts it into Melatonin. This helps you create more of your natural melatonin which can give you better quality sleep.

Finally, Tart Cherries contain natural melatonin. It ups your levels with the real thing to help give you a great night’s sleep.

Are there any side effects with Genius Sleep Aid? Is it safe to use?

It should be fine for you to use. The ingredients have not been linked to causing side effects when taken at these dosages.

However, we always believe it is better to be safe than sorry. You should check with your doctor before supplementing this sleep aid. Ensuring you don’t have any allergies or preexisting conditions that could interfere with this supplement would be a good move too.

Genius Sleep Aid Summary

This is a fine sleep supplement. Are there better options out there? Sure, but not a lot of them.

The Genius Brand has a good reputation for releasing clean and effective products.

Our issues with this supplement aren’t to do with what’s in it – but more with what isn’t. By this we mean that more study-backed sleep aids could be added to this supplement.

As we’ve already mentioned in our ingredient summary, Magnesium, L-Tryptophan and Montmorency Tart Cherries would all be big winners in this supplement.

It’s a nice sleep aid, but there’s still some room for improvement on the overall formula.
