How are the ingredients Herbs Etc Deep Sleep?
The layout isn’t great. All the ingredients are under one large proprietary blend.
A proprietary blend is when a supplement manufacturer chooses to hide the individual dosages of the ingredients in their supplement.
Instead, they group all the ingredients together and present them as a blend under one large dose. The problem with this is that it makes the supplement harder to assess.
You don’t know how much of each ingredient you’re getting, so you don’t know how effective it is overall. It’s not ideal for anybody that takes supplement ingredients seriously.
Regardless, we’ve done our best to give you information on the ingredients in Herbs Etc Deep Sleep to give you a better idea of it works, along with our opinions and thoughts on how to improve it.
California Poppy Plant
This is the first ingredient in Herbs Etc Deep Sleep, and it’s not the strongest that we’ve seen when it comes to sleep.
The reason for this is that there are no studies which link California Poppy to promoting sleep at any capacity. The main claims for this nutrient is that it may help to boost cognition and mental agility.
However, research is still being done. There’s not enough studies out there to make a confident evaluation on California Poppy at this time.
Valerian Root
This is a much better option in our opinion in Herbs Etc Deep Sleep.
Valerian Root is commonly used in teas and is known of it’s ability to reduce anxiety and promote relaxation. It does this through increasing your overall levels of the hormone GABA which is responsible for this effect.
By supplementing Valerian Root, you set your mind to a much more calm and relaxed state. This is perfect for creating a better mental environment which you’ll find it easier to fall asleep in.
It doesn’t directly promote sleep, but it’s the next best thing.
Passionflower Herb & Chamomile Flower
We’ve grouped these two ingredients together in our evalution of Herbs Etc Deep Sleep because they both do largely the same thing.
They both contain Apigenin. Apigenin is a bioflavonoid which reduces anxiety and promotes sedation.
Both of these nutrients are used commonly used in nighttime teas for this reason. They are good at helping to calm you while also subtly rolling you into a sound sleep.
Both ingredients are nice choices here, we just wish we had more information on their dosages to properly assess them.
Lemon Balm
Also known as Melissa Officinalis, Lemon Balm is an ingredient used correctly in Herbs Etc Deep Sleep.
We say correctly as it is commonly used as a cognitive enhancer – when studies say it doesn’t actually have much of an effect in that capacity.
What it does do however, is promote calmness. There’s a lot more evidence for this, and it’s great if you’re looking to improve your sleep.
Lemon Balm can help get you into a better mindset, and once you get into bed, you should start feeling calmer and ready to get to sleep.
Oat Seed (Milky Stage)
Maybe not a great choice in Herbs Etc Deep Sleep. A lot of the information surrounding Milky Oat Seed and sleep appear to be anecdotal. There’s a lot of talk online that says it works well for helping you to sleep through the night, but no real studies to support it.
Another thing to note here is that Milky Oat Seed is gluten-based and my cause problems among those who suffer from celiac disease.
More research is definitely needed. In the meantime we recommend Magnesium which does largely the same thing by relaxing muscle impulses while you sleep which helps prevent you from waking up.
Orange Peel
Another ingredient which may not give you what you need in Herbs Etc Deep Sleep.
Orange Peel has been seen in some cases to have a sedative effect when injected directly into the blood stream. However, supplementing it orally does not give the same results.
There are studies to support Orange Peel in promoting sleep to some extent – just not when it comes to oral supplementation.
Ingredient Profile Summary
The first thing we have to address with Herbs Etc Deep Sleep is the proprietary blend. We don’t any of the dosages in this supplement.
This makes it very hard for us to gauge how effective it really is in our assessment of this supplement.
The next thing we need to cover is that there’s not much here to promote sleep. It gets you into the right mindset, getting you calmed and relaxed, but not much happens from a hormonal perspective.
Some melatonin dense tart cherries and L-Tryptophan would’ve worked well here. It’s a shame to not see them.
We also feel that magnesium would be a better choice over the milky oat seed as that lacks the studies – and it gluten heavy.
Magnesium, like milky oat seed is claimed to do, can also help to reduce nervous system impulses overnight and is proven to do so. It would be much better and may give you longer, more undisturbed sleep.
Is Herbs Etc Deep Sleep safe to use?
It may be a proprietary blend, but all the ingredients are natural and it should be safe to use.
The only thing we would say is that if you are gluten-intolerant you should be wary of the Milky Oat Seed. That will cause you problems, especially if you have Celiac Disease.
If you’re unsure, make sure you speak to your doctor before using it, and also ensure you don’t have any allergies to what is used in here.
Herbs Etc Deep Sleep Summary
All in all, there are some good ingredients in this supplement, but there are a few factors that weigh it down.
One of the main problems for us is the proprietary blend. Without knowing how much of each ingredient you’re getting, the integrity of the supplement is weakened.
It would also help if there were a few more potent nutrients in here to promote sleep. Tart Cherries are great for melatonin, whereas L-Tryptophan is a good precursor for the sleep hormone too. Magnesium would also be a better choice over the gluten-heavy milky oat seed, and would reduce night disturbances.
There’s definite room for improvement with this supplement.
