Kirkland Sleep Aid

Directions for Kirkland Sleep Aid

Below are the directions for how to take Kirkland Sleep Aid:

  • Take one tablet 30 minutes before going to bed (Adults and children 12 years and over).
  • Take once daily or as directed by a doctor

This is easy to follow and standard practice for most sleep aids. Just take it while you’re getting ready for a good night’s sleep and let Kirkland Sleep Aid do the rest.

Kirkland Sleep Aid Ingredients

Below is the list of active ingredients in Kirkland Sleep Aid:

  • Doxylamine Succinate – 25 mg

AsĀ  you can see, there is only one active ingredient in this Kirkland Signature Sleep Aid. We have some reservations about this as there appear to be no natural ingredients in sight with this supplement.

Below we’ll go into more detail of Doxylamine Succinate along with how it can help you as well as the limitations that we think accompany this sleep aid.

Kirkland Sleep Aid Ingredients

Doxylamine Succinate

Doxylamine Succinate is an antihistamine which is usually given to those suffering from allergies or hay fever. It mainly helps treat sneezing, runny noses, watery eyes, rashes and hives, itching, and other cold or allergy symptoms.

However, it is also thought to help aid insomnia. It can be effective, but should only be used as a short-term solution to your problem. Mainly because it may cause problems with long term use. It isn’t something you should be dependent on.

There are plenty of natural alternatives which could work as effectively. Montmorency Tart Cherries are on the rise at the moment because they contain large amount of natural melatonin. This is the hormone in your body which helps to regulate your sleep.

Other options include 5-HTP which is converted by your body into serotonin, which is then again converted into melatonin. There are nice natural options out there.

Kirkland Sleep Aid Side Effects

Here are the potential side effects associated with Kirkland Sleep Aid (doxylamine succinate):

  • blurry vision;
  • dry mouth, nose, or dry throat;
  • constipation; or
  • dizziness

You should call your doctor if you feel something more serious such as:

  • confusion, hallucinations;
  • severe dizziness or drowsiness; or
  • little or no urinating

Finally, absolutely do not use Kirkland Sleep Aid if you suffer from the following:

  • glaucoma;
  • enlarged prostate;
  • problems with urination; or
  • asthma, bronchitis, emphysema, or other chronic lung disease.

These conditions can be exacerbated by the antihistamine properties of Kirkland Sleep Aid.

These are the problems that are associated with doxylamine succinate, and by extension Kirkland Sleep Aid. This is because it’s a lot more intense that the standard natural sleep aid.

Below, we’re going to cover a few more user suggested topics about Kirkland Sleep Aid:

Kirkland Sleep Aid Overdose: Is it possible?

Yes. You should not take more than the recommended dosage for Kirkland Sleep Aid.

If you do take more Kirkland Sleep Aid than recommended, seek emergency medical attention or you should call the Poison Help line on 1-800-222-1222. Overdose symptoms include severe forms of some of the side effects we’ve listed earlier in this guide.

You should be taking one serving of Kirkland Sleep Aid 30 minutes before you go to bed, and you should not take it for longer than 2 weeks consecutively.

Kirkland Sleep Aid Addiction

You cannot get physically addicted to Kirkland Sleep Aid / doxylamine succinate. That said, it does have the potential to be psychologically addictive – much like anything.

We haven’t heard cases of it, but it’s easy to understand that someone could be come addicted to this product thinking they “need” it to sleep and take it everyday.

This is not recommended. At most you’re only recommended to use Kirkland Sleep Aid 2 weeks consecutively. If you feel you need and want to take it for longer, you should seek some kind of professional help – especially if you have an addictive personality.

Kirkland Sleep Aid and Alcohol

Alcohol can increase the nervous system side effects of Kirkland Sleep Aid’s doxylamine such as dizziness, drowsiness, and difficulty concentrating. People may also get an impairment in thinking and judgment. Avoid the use of alcohol while using Kirkland Sleep Aid.

What people are saying about Kirkland Sleep Aid

Below, we have a few reports of other users online who have been taking Kirkland Sleep Aid. We’ve used two main resources for our research; Reddit (a.k.a. the front page of the internet) and general forums.

Combined we hoped to get enough experiences to crowd source a better idea of how this sleep aid is performing for people in the world.

Kirkland Sleep Aid Reddit

We’ve yet to find a full report on Kirkland Sleep Aid from Reddit. The only information that we’ve seen that was relevant is a user asking about which sleep aid to use. They say they might use Kirkland Sleep Aid, however have concerns about a hangover effect given how drowsy it may make them.

Aside from that, there was no worthy discourse here worth discussing.

Kirkland Sleep Aid Forum

Forums covering Kirkland Sleep Aid were surprisingly more fruitful. We found two people discussing Kirkland Sleep Aid and they seemed to approve of it.

They liked the price and usually take half a serving:

Kirkland Sleep Aid Forum

This seems like a healthy use of Kirkland Sleep Aid, not a full dosage when they don’t want to use their prescription Ambien.

Again, we think there are a lot of risks with Kirkland Sleep Aid, and we’re not recommended it if you have any preexisting conditions or vulnerabilities. However, if you are already taking medication need to take a break from it, Kirkland Sleep Aid may help as an alternative.

We would always recommend speaking to your doctor about this first though.

Kirkland Sleep Aid vs Unisom

Kirkland Sleep Aid and Unisom are the same sleep aid under different brands. They both have the same single ingredient doxylamine succinate.

The concernable difference is which brand you would like to support, if you’re more into Costco go with Kirkland, if you like Unisom that fine too.

The difference is negligible. They’re both using the same antihistamine as a sleep aid.

Kirkland Sleep Aid Review | Summary

Kirkland Sleep Aid is one of the most popular over-the-counter (otc) sleep aids on the market. But that doesn’t mean it is the best.

Kirkland Sleep Aid is one ingredient doxylamine succinate, an antihistamine known for causing drowsiness. It may work, but the trade-off for the great price is a greater potential for side effects. If you have some preexisting conditions, it’s not for you. The same goes if you’re looking for a long-term solution to your sleeping problems.

You should look for something natural and safer.
