Life Extension Melatonin Ingredients – What are they?
Well, there’s only one – Melatonin. Usually in this part of the review we give you a brief intro to what’s in this supplement and our first impressions.
In this case, it’s just one ingredient, so that won’t be necessary. Melatonin has a reputation for sleep and it’s pretty consistent. Here we look at what the ingredient does along with our thoughts:
Melatonin
The only ingredient in Life Extension Melatonin, and the main reason you’re researching it in the first place.
Melatonin is your body’s natural sleep hormone. By supplementing it you can improve your overall melatonin levels.
The benefit of this is that your brain releases melatonin into your blood stream to tell your body it is time to go to sleep.
The healthier your levels of melatonin – the easier it is for you to sleep. Pretty simple stuff.
It’s a good ingredient to this supplement, but we do have some concerns. The main issue is the argument over whether or not the melatonin in here is natural.
Many supplement companies choose to use artificial melatonin in their products due to it being cheaper and more accessible – however it is not as potent.
There are numerous other natural nutrients out there which can help boost you melatonin levels – it’s a shame none of these were used in Life Extension Melatonin. Don’t worry, we’ll cover them in our ingredients summary next.
Ingredient Summary
Let’s be honest, it’s just melatonin. There’s nothing wrong with that and it can promote sleep. However, without knowing if the melatonin in this Life Extension is legit, there are a few improvements that we think could be made to this supplement.
So, what could help make Life Extension Melatonin work?
Three things that we think would help here are Magnesium, L-Tryptophan and maybe replacing the Melatonin with Tart Cherry.
Tart Cherry is a good natural source of melatonin and would help to improve your overall levels of the sleep hormone. Doing this is much more natural and is the most potent option to give the best results.
Likewise, L-Tryptophan is converted by your body into 5-HTP, then serotonin (which promotes your mood) and then finally into natural melatonin. Again, this is more of the sleep hormone to help you rest up at night.
Finally, Magnesium would be good because it can help to relax muscular impulses overnight. In doing so, it reduces involuntary movements which can greatly reduce your chances of waking up, giving you longer undisturbed sleep.
These would all be desirable improvements to this supplement.
Life Extension Melatonin Side Effects – Are there any?
There shouldn’t be. With only one ingredient at a reasonable dose, we don’t think Life Extension Melatonin should cause you any problems.
That said, we can’t speak for everyone. If you have any concerns you should always speak to your doctor first.
Everyone reacts differently, and we think it’s always better to be safe than sorry.
Life Extension Melatonin Summary
On the whole, this is a melatonin supplement. It’s a hormone that helps promote sleep.
The main concern we have is whether or not the melatonin in here is natural or artifical. It may reduce the overall effectiveness.
Our recommendation is for ingredients that contain natural melatonin, like Tart Cherry.
All in all, if you want a cheap option for helping promote sleep – this may be what you want. But if you’re willing to pay more, there are more effective options.
