MidNite Sleep Aid: The Ingredients
The first thing to note is that the majority of the ingredients in here are part of a proprietary blend.
A proprietary blend is when a supplement manufacturer chooses to hide the individual dosages of the ingredients in their product.
What happens instead is that they are all grouped together under one larger dosage. This means you don’t know how much of each ingredient you’re getting or how effective it really is overall.
That said, there are some good options in MidNite Sleep Aid. Below, we look at them all and give you our thoughts and suggestions.
Take a look:
Melatonin
This is a great start to MidNite Sleep Aid. Melatonin is your body’s natural sleep hormone, supplementing it is an effective way to increase slumber.
By taking Melatonin, you can increases your overall levels of the sleep hormone. This can help you to get to sleep faster, sleep for longer and have overall better quality sleep.
However, we do have some concerns with the melatonin in MidNite Sleep Aid. We don’t know if it is natural or not. Many supplements in the sleep industry choose to use artificial melatonin. The problem with this is that it is not as effective as the real thing.
A better solution would be to use a nutrient which contains a natural source of the hormone to ensure you’re getting what you need. Tart Cherry would be the best option here, it contains a natural supply of melatonin and will help to boost your levels.
From this point on, we enter the proprietary blend stage of this supplement. We don’t know any of the dosages, which can make it difficult to know how effective it really is.
Lemon Balm
This is an ingredient in MidNite Sleep Aid which has some benefits when it comes to sleep.
Lemon Balm was originally used in nootropics and was thought to help cognitive enhancement. However, further studies show this isn’t exactly the case.
What it can do though, is help to reduce stress and anxiety. This can help to improve overall levels of calmness.
The advantage of this is that it can put you in a better mindset to make it easier to fall asleep after you get into bed.
It doesn’t directly promote sleep on its own, but under the right circumstances it can help you to drift off easier.
Chamomile
This is a herb that you commonly see used in nighttime teas. It is a good addition to MidNite Sleep Aid.
Although it does not directly promote sleep, like Lemon Balm, it can help get you in the right mindset so that you can slumber in the right environment.
Chamomile contains a component known as Apigenin. Apigenin can help to promote a hormone in your body known as GABA.
GABA is great for reducing anxiety while increasing calmness and relaxation. This can help get you into a better mindset when it comes to falling asleep.
Lavender
The final ingredient in MidNite Sleep Aid. Lavender does have it’s advantages, it can reduce anxiety which can help with mindset.
However, in some cases it has even been seen to work well with Lemon Balm. Together when lemon balm oil is combined with lavender oil, the two have been seen to have sedative effects – which they can’t achieve on their own.
It may work in this case, but much more research is needed to know for sure. Regardless, it looks promising in MidNite Sleep Aid.
Ingredient Summary for MidNite Sleep Aid
There are only a handful of ingredients here in MidNite Sleep Aid, and it is in a proprietary blend.
Without knowing how much of each ingredient we’re getting, it can make it difficult to determine how effective it can really be for you.
Aside from that, there are some good choices in here which can help relax you and promote sleep.
We do have some thoughts about the melatonin. It’s unclear whether or not it is natural. For the best results we always think natural melatonin performs the best. Ideally, we’d like to see Tart Cherries in here instead of melatonin – they contain a natural amount of melatonin which ensures you’re getting the real thing.
Another thing that we think would work well in here would be L-Tryptophan. It converts into serotonin which promotes mood, and finally into natural melatonin. This again gives you a lot more of the sleep hormone.
Finally, we think magnesium would help here too. It relaxes muscular impulses overnight which reduces chances of involuntary twitches and jerks. This can stop you from waking up overnight.
Are there any side effects from MidNite Sleep Aid?
We don’t think so, all the ingredients in here are completely natural and don’t have links to causing any problems at these dosages.
You shouldn’t run into any problems.
That said, if you have any concerns, we suggest speaking to your doctor before supplementing it to remove any doubts.
MidNite Sleep Aid Summary
Summing up, this is a sleep aid which has some benefits – but it isn’t the best out there.
We like the melatonin (although we’d love to know if it is natural or not) but the proprietary blend is hard to judge how effective the overall product is.
The combination of Lemon Balm and Lavender is interesting too – but more research is needed to know just how effective it is for sedation.
We think more ingredients could be added to improve this supplement, along with better transparency over the dosages in this supplement.
