Nature Made Melatonin: The Ingredients
There’s only two: Calcium and Melatonin. We do have some thoughts on these ingredients. You know Melatonin is the sleep hormone, but there’s more to the story than that when it comes to this supplement.
We also feel that more ingredients could be added to help you get more out of the Calcium in here.
There’s a bit to cover here. Below, we’ll go through both ingredients, along with our thoughts and how it could be improved:
This is a nice addition to Nature Made Melatonin, but it may not help so much with sleep.
Don’t get us wrong, it does have some benefits for slumber, but we think more needs adding to this supplement for it to work that way.
Why? Because the main way Calcium can help with sleep is by converting the L-Trytophan in your body into the sleep hormone melatonin.
L-Tryptophan gets converted into 5-HTP, then into Serotonin – which helps with mood, then finally into the sleep hormone melatonin.
This is good for promoting all natural melatonin in your body.
However, we think Nature Made Melatonin should include some L-Tryptophan in this supplement to support your overall levels and give you a much bigger boost for when the time comes.
It’s a shame that hasn’t been done here.
This is a better choice in Nature Made Melatonin. Melatonin is the natural hormone in your body which is responsible for sleep.
Your brain releases it to signal to your body that it’s time for you to rest and go to sleep.
By supplementing it, you can increase your overall levels and improve your sleep quality.
It is a good choice in Nature Made Melatonin, but we do have a few thoughts on it. The main issue that we see with the melatonin is that there is no way to tell whether it is natural or not.
This is a common concern among most sleep aids. The issue being is that melatonin is easy to get in it’s artificial lab-made form, it’s also cheaper too. The problem with this is that it is left effective that the real thing.
A better solution would be for Nature Made Melatonin to use something like Tart Cherries. These contain natural melatonin which can help improve your overall levels of the sleep hormone naturally. They also have links to promoting numerous other benefits in your body.
For a melatonin supplement, Nature Made Melatonin is a nice option. The calcium is some good added support to give it an extra edge.
However, we do need to voice our concerns about whether not the melatonin in here is natural.
If it isn’t it may not be that effective in comparison to the real thing. A better solution to this would be to replace the melatonin with Tart Cherry.
Tart Cherry contains natural melatonin along with several other benefits which can help improve your overall health. Another thing that we would suggest for melatonin would be to add L-Tryptophan to this supplement.
L-Tryptophan is converted by your body into serotonin which boosts your mood, and then again into melatonin – which again increases your levels. Which again, gives your sleep hormones a boost.
Finally, we think magnesium would help a lot here. It can help reduce ‘excitable’ muscular impulses in your body that you do involuntarily overnight. This can stop twitches and jerks that may wake you up – helping you to sleep for much longer.
It would be better if more ingredients like this were in this supplement to support the melatonin.
Nature Made Melatonin Side Effects – Are there any?
Not that we can see. There’s only two ingredients in Nature Made Melatonin, they’re in sensible dosages and haven’t been linked to causing side effects.
You shouldn’t have any issues taking it. However, if you do have any concerns you should always speak to your doctor before using a new supplement.
This can reduce the risk as much as possible.
Nature Made Melatonin Summary
All in all, this is a melatonin with the added benefit of Calcium. However, we think the Calcium would be much better if it was combined with a nutrient like L-Tryptophan which would help overall melatonin production.
Regardless, you get what you pay for with a melatonin supplement, there are better options out there – but they are more costly. Especially if you want guaranteed, natural melatonin.
