In this section, we’ll be looking at the ingredients Epimedium, Turmeric, Japanese Fleeceflower, EPA and DHA.
Let’s start with Epimedium…
Relief Factor Ingredient #1: Epimedium (200 mg)
Also known as Horny Goat Weed, Epimedium is more commonly seen in libido enhancers, rather than joint supplements.
So what does this mean for Relief Factor? Is this ingredient good or bad in this product?
Although it only has mild evidence for it working as an effective libido enhancer, the evidence for it helping your joints is even thinner.
The main reason it may help comes down to the Icariin in the Epimedium. At present, there is only one main study out there which shows the Icariin may help reduce bone loss in older people over time. However, it was only seen to have good effects when combined with calcium supplements.
Without calcium, it may not be as effective. More studies need to be done into this without Calcium in the mix to see just how effective the Icariin in Epimedium really is for joints.
Relief Factor Ingredient #2: Turmeric (667 mg)
Turmeric would be considered the most effective ingredient in Relief Factor to help with joint aches and pains. It’s an anti-inflammatory which can help joint and flexibility all while reducing overall discomfort.
This is all due to the curcumin (curcuminoids) in this ingredient. It can even help to some extent with boosting mood and treating depression.
However, there is a notorious problem with Turmeric / Curcumin, it is incredibly hard for your body to absorb. Typically standard turmeric doesn’t fare well in supplements due to how hard it is for your body to take on.
Ingredients like Black Pepper seem to help improve absorption, and more innovative solutions like patented CurcuWIN seem to have a better effect – it would be better to see these in Relief Factor.
Relief Factor Ingredient #3: Japanese Fleeceflower (70 mg)
This isn’t the best ingredient to find in Relief Factor – although it has some benefits, it doesn’t make too much of a difference in the grand scheme of things when it comes to your joint health.
So, what does it do? Japanese Fleeceflower has been seen in some cases to help promote blood flow which could help to some degree with the absorption of the Curcumin in Relief Factor.
However, it is not the most potent option, so more could be done in this department to make sure that you fully take on the ingredients in Relief Factor.
Relief Factor Ingredient #4: EPA (647 mg)
This is one of the acids that make up part of your Omega-3s which can be good for joint pain and discomfort. So, what are the advantages of having EPA as an ingredient in Relief Factor?
EPA can help to reduce inflammation and joint health, which can be useful if you are experiencing pain from inflamed joints.
The one thing we would say is that the EPA in Relief Factor comes from fish oil, and this isn’t the cleanest form of Omega-3s. Ideally, you’d want this from a cleaner source like algae to ensure that you’re getting a healthy version of the acid.
Relief Factor Ingredient 5: DHA (253 mg)
Again, this is another part of your Omega-3s that we are seeing in the Relief Factor ingredients.
It can help with reducing heart disease, inflammation and even some eye conditions. It’s generally a good ingredient to help with inflammation and improve joint comfort.
However, as we’ve said – it’s from fish. As we’ve mentioned, fish oil is an antiquated way of getting your Omega-3s. This increases the chance of it containing mercury and generally being contaminated.
You should look for a cleaner source of omega-3s like algae, this would be a better option than what is offered in Relief Factor.
Relief Factor Ingredients Good or Bad?
There are some good ingredients in Relief Factor, however, there is a lot here that could be improved.
For example, the Epimedium is more of a libido enhancer than it is a joint supplement. There is some evidence of the Icariin in Relief Factor helping fight bone loss, but it is thin.
Next we have the Tumeric, which is a good choice – but it is hard for your body to absorb to give you the best results.
The Japanese Fleeceflower can help with absorption to some extent, but it’s not as effective as CurcuWIN or using black pepper.
Then we have the EPA and DHA, which are fish based versions of the Omega-3s which could be cleaner alternatives like in algae versions or the equivalent.
